Overhead Crane

Who needs this training?

Do you conduct overhead crane operations? Do you use an overhead crane to lift product/equipment in your workplace? This course includes the use of small, fixed location ¼ -ton block and tackle hoists, ½- ton and ¾- ton electric hoists as well as overhead cranes. This training does not cover mobile cranes, tower cranes, personnel hoisting devices and personnel elevating devices.

Course Description

This course is broken down into two parts – theory session, which is followed by a practical evaluation and/or training depending on student experience. Experienced students will be guided through the practical evaluation and inexperienced students will receive additional hands-on training before being evaluated. Training is done on-site at the student’s workplace. Course content covers design/type (Overhead or Bridge Crane, Gantry Crane, Half Gantry Crane, and Jib Cranes – to name a few), inspections, testing, maintenance, safe operations, and equipment/tools used in operations.

Information for this course is taken from CAN/CSA Standard B167-17 ‘Overhead Travelling Cranes’ and CAN/CSA Standard C-225-10 ‘Vehicle Mounted Aerial Devices’. Information is also taken from any relevant standards in the Occupational Health and Safety Act and industry specific regulations.

This training does not cover mobile cranes, tower cranes, personnel hoisting devices and personnel elevating devices.
