Working at Heights Refresher

Who needs this training?

Mandated training as per the Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development, this CPO approved course is required if you are conducting any tasks while working at heights that are covered under Construction Regulation 213/91. This applies to workers working in facilities not technically known as a Construction Project. The refresher course is available for workers who have previously received the full working at heights course.

Course Description

Ontario now recognizes Newfoundland and Labrador fall protection training from WorkplaceNL as an alternative to Ontario’s working at heights training program.

This Working at Heights Refresher course retrains students on all aspects that were taught in the prerequisite Working at Heights course.

This course has been designed to ensure students remember how to recognize fall hazards in their workplace and how to apply this hazard recognition to plan, safeguard and organize themselves to create a safe environment. This course has been approved by the Chief Prevention Officer of the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development and complies with O. Reg. 297/13 & O. Reg. 213/91.

Course highlights include roles and responsibilities as set by the OHSA, hierarchy of control, ladder safety, scaffold safety, guardrails and bump lines, floor covers, elevated work platform safety, travel restrain systems, travel restricting systems, personal fall arrest components, fall clearance calculations, lifelines, rescue awareness and plans, theory test and the practical components where we will explore different PPE and other tools/equipment.

Working at Heights training is mandatory for workers in the construction industry and workers must take the refresher course within 3 years of completing the full day course.

Students will be required to properly demonstrate donning and doffing a fall arrest harness during the practical training – students may bring their own fall arrest harness for this application or choose to use one of ours.
