A deadly accident at a residential housing project has landed Elderston Manor Estates Inc. a $180,000 penalty.

On August 3, 2006, a delivery truck driver for Mansteel Inc. was bringing a load of steel bearing plates and shims to the site in Vaughan, Ontario, north of Toronto. The 100 plates, each weighing about 17 pounds, were in a steel barrel on the flatbed truck, the MOL notes.

200 Besserer Inc., the constructor of a condominium in Ottawa, was fined $50,000 on September 28, 2009, for a violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). Taggart Construction Limited and Right Forming (1996) Limited were fined $35,000 and $75,000, respectively, for other violations of the OHSA at the same project.

Urbandale Construction Limited, a residential construction company from Ottawa, was fined $40,000 on September 24, 2009, for a violation of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) after a worker was injured. Laren Holdings Inc., carrying on business as Tony Olsen Enterprises, an Ottawa roofing contractor, was fined $50,000 in relation to the same incident.
