The federal Department of National Defence (DND) and the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Published the results of a recent Surgeon General review on using the drug mefloquine to prevent malaria in the military. According to a DND statement dated June 1, 2017 the military will now recommend mefloquine only if a CAF member requests it or if there are contraindications to prescriptions for other anti-malarial drugs.

A person in a room below an area undergoing renovations was struck by debris from through the ceiling, where a worker was cutting through the floor. The defendant worker failed to ensure that the core drilling system was used in accordance with the manufacturer’s operating manual.

A worker, employed by Sellick Equipment Ltd., a manufacturer and supplier of heavy machinery and rough terrain equipment in Harrow, Ontario, suffered critical injuries when a steel bar fell from an industrial magnet. The employer had failed to maintain a lift magnet in good condition.

Metrolinx, the company that runs the GO Transit commuter system throughout the Greater Toronto area, as well as the Union Pearson Express (UP) trains from downtown Toronto to Toronto Pearson International Airport, is considering whether it should adopt random alcohol and drug testing for some of its employees.
