The Ontario Ministry of Labour has launched a new Construction Health and Safety Action Plan in a bid to reduce injuries, fatalities and illnesses in the construction industry, Labour Kevin Flynn announced on May 11, 2017.

Two workers were injured when they fell while on a work platform. Amico Contractors Inc. failed to ensure that the platform was constructed and installed to support the weight of the workers, as required by section 134(1)(a) of Regulation 213/91, contrary to section 25(1)(c) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Richvale York Block Inc. failed to ensure there was a guardrail at the open side of a raised platform on which a worker stood, as prescribed by section 13(1)(b)(i) of the Regulation for Industrial Establishments. This is contrary to section 25(1)(c) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and an offence pursuant to subsection 66(1) of the Act.
