Blog Post #1649 – Maple Leaf Foods Wins Four Workplace Safety Awards

Maple Leaf Foods has won workplace safety awards for four of its processing facilities in Canada.

It received the awards from the North American Meat Institute (NAMI) during its Environmental, Labor and Safety + conference in Carlsbad, California.

The company received NAMI’s highest award – the Award of Honor – for workers safety achievements at three facilities in Brandon, Manitoba; its meat canning operation in Mississauga, Ontario, and its Courtney Park manufacturing operation in Mississauga, Ontario.

Maple Leaf Foods was also recognized with an Award of Merit for its Parma prepared meats facility in Laval, Quebec.

It also won the inaugural Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Award and NAMI along with an environmental recognition award.

“We are humbled to receive the Institute’s awards because they directly connect to our vision to be the most sustainable protein company on earth,” said Curtis Frank, president and chief operating officer of Maple Leaf Foods.

My opinion

Well done, Maple Leaf Foods!

Changing the culture to one of safety does not have to be costly. Maple Leaf Foods has driven the safety message from the top to the very bottom and the support from the president goes a long way in that promotion. Mind you, it could have been sidetracked if members from middle management didn’t buy into the idea.

I wonder if Maple Leaf Foods used a ‘gap analysis’ to endeavor to find out if the message WAS getting through.
