Blog Post #1474 – Pizzeria Employee Knifed

Excerpt from the OH&S Canada magazine (Oct. 2016)

The Halifax Regional Police (HRP) have arrested a man and woman who allegedly injured a male restaurant employee with a knife during a robbery on August 03, 2016.

The worker was on the job at Robert’s Pizza and Donair in Dartmouth late in the evening when the pair entered the restaurant and attacked him while demanding cash, according to an HRP statement. This employee sustained deep cuts to his hands and arms, and the robbers fled the restaurant with an unspecified amount of cash.

Officers from the HRP’s East Division were notified of the incident just before midnight and arrived to find the worker bleeding from his wounds. The worker received medical treatment at the scene and was sent to a hospital.

Public sources led police to a Dartmouth apartment building, where the HRP’s Integrated General Investigation Section questioned a man and woman about the incident. The following day, Lemarco Sparks, 27, was charged with robbery, disguise with intent, uttering threats, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, while Stephanie Nicholson, 23, was charged with robbery.

My opinion

To think this happens at all is too much!

A solitary worker working well into the night is at possible risk and the need to ensure that at least 2 workers would have possibly stopped the attack.

I do wonder how long the two suspects cased the place to see if there were multiple workers.

I do hope the worker has since healed from the attack and the two suspects were given substantial prison sentences.
